Brownstown (IN) Banner, October 20, 1920, p. 1.
Cribb---Mrs. Priscilla Cribb who, perhaps, was the oldest woman in Jackson
County, passed away at the home of her son, R. H. Cribb, Thursday evening,
October 14, 1920, at 7:20 o'clock of general infirmities, aged 95 years, 8
months and 27 days. She had been in failing health for several years and
for a year had been confined to her bed.
November 24, 1847, she was married to H. S. Cribb who, besides practicing
medicine, was a Christian minister. To this happy union six children were
born, four of whom have gone on before her. The early part of her married
life was spent in Washington County near Salem.
In (illegible) the family moved to Brownstown where the marriage tie was
broken by the death of her husband nine years later. Left alone, she has
been busy with the care of her children and also the care of her four
grandchildren who were left motherless at a tender age.
Her life is remarkable not only because of its remarkable length but because
of her usefulness and her willingness to help and befriend. She always has
had a fondness for the bible and read it constantly even up until the
closing months of her life. Her mental faculties were remarkably keen,
being interested in local and world affairs until a short time before her
death.
While Mrs. Cribb has outlived her contemporaries, she will be long
remembered as a capable and devoted mother and as one who considered it her
mission in life to make others happy and contented.
She leaves to mourn her departure (illegible) children: R. H. Cribb and
Miss Ella who have patiently and tenderly cared for her in her declining
years, and four grandchildren, C. E. Cox and C. M. Cribb of Chicago, Mrs. J.
S. Hinkle of Martinsville and Mrs. Willard Gossman of Brownstown. There are
also three great grandchildren, Maxine Gossman of Brownstown, Robert Louis
Cribb of Chicago and Martha Louise Hinkle of Martinsville, and a host of
loving and sympathetic relatives and friends.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. G. O. Mills, pastor of the Christian
Church were held at her late home Sunday morning at ten o'clock. Burial in
Fairview Cemetery.
