Indianapolis (IN) Sentinel, March 26, 1879, p. 1. NOTE: Other newspapers
have identified Strouse as Strauss. It is not known which of the two
spellings is correct.
Elder W. H. H. Strouse, pastor of the Christian Church, has been tried and
expelled from the church on charges of great heinousness. He got a new
trial, however, that takes place tonight. A widow lady, Mrs. Graff, charges
that he called to see her for womb disease and told her she must have local
treatment. He then turned the clothes of the bed back, examined her in a
most indecent manner, and attempted to get in bed with her. This is her
story.
A young lady says Strouse, who is also a doctor, called to see her, told her
her lungs and womb were affected, examined her for the last disease, and
then sought to gratify his lust upon her. She tried to leave the room. He
seized and tried to detain her but she got away from him, rand downstairs
and informed her mother. Strouse quickly left the house, mounted his horse
and rode away. This is the girl's statement.
