SIX-YEAR-OLD BOY
Run Down by Automobile in Louisville Last Friday Morning
Grandson of James Abbott of This Place
Kenneth Boyers, six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Boyers or Rubel
Avenue, was struck and run over by an automobile in Louisville last Friday
morning. The car was driven by J. E. Burghard, treasurer of the
Peter-Burghard Stone Company, a widely known Louisville businessman. About
one year ago he ran down and killed a man in Louisville, a baker by the name
of Messmer. Burghard drove rapidly from the scene and was not arrested
until nine hours later.
The little six-year-old boy that he ran over last Friday morning was on his
way to school and was accompanied by a little girl. They had waited on a
corner for a car to pass, and immediately after the car passed they started
across the street. Looking up, the little girl said she saw the car rapidly
approach, and she managed to jump in time to keep from being struck, but one
account says that she was still holding to her little companion's hand when
the car struck him. The little fellow was knocked down, and the heavy car
passed over his body. Fortunately, a physician was standing near and
rendered first aid and then took the little fellow to St. Anthony's Hospital
where his injuries were dressed. He had a deep wound in his forehead, and
the doctors fear that he is injured internally. Burghard was released on
$300 bond furnished by his father.
Mrs. Boyers is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Abbott of this place, and
they have been living in Louisville for a number of years. Ben Abbott of
this place was in Louisville last Saturday to see the little fellow and Mrs.
Boyers.
