Thirty-three years ago Lafe (consider Laf and Lafayette as spelling
variants) Tomlin, a brother of Newton, Davie and Seth Tomlin, emigrated to
San Francisco. He has resided there ever since and has become wealthy.
When he (illegible) there in 1852, he paid fifty dollars for a barrel of
flour and four dollars a bushel for potatoes.
