Hazen Hayes Pleasant, A HISTORY OF CRAWFORD COUNTY, INDIANA, (Greenfield,
IN: William Mitchell Printing Company, 1926), 14-15.
Elisha Tadlock was the first seminary trustee. When the law was enacted in
1818, Gov. Jennings appointed him trustee. On December 18, 1821, he made
his first report to the general assembly of Indiana which showed that he had
$100.00 of seminary funds. He was elected to represent Crawford County in
the General Assembly in 1825. He was overseer of the poor in Whisky Run
Township for many years. In those days there was no county farm to which
paupers were sent. The county commissioners generally appointed someone in
each township. In 1825, the board allowed him $37.50 for keeping Timothy
Bennett for three months. Mr. Tadlock was collector of the state revenues
in 1827. Mr. Tadlock has many descendants in Crawford County, all of whom
have been well respected people.
