GOLD DISCOVERED IN INDIANA-ACCORDING TO REPORT, THE ORE HAS BEEN FOUND IN
PAYING QUANTITES
Scottsburg, Indiana, December 18-It is thought that gold has been discovered
in paying quantities on the farm of James C. Rickie who resides six miles
west of this city. Last August, while a party of young men were making a
geological survey through this part of the state, they reported that they
had made discoveries of the precious ore, but nothing more was said or
thought of this report until some three weeks ago when a party consisting of
three young men from Chicago came to this place, since which time they have
engaged in digging and analyzing the ore taken from the banks of the stream
passing through the farm of Mr. Richie. The explorers believe that the
mineral can be found in large quantities in this section of the country, and
they feel greatly encouraged as the result of their investigations.
