SEYMOUR BADLY BURNED
Early Morning Fire Destroys Business Portion of Town
Fire broke out in Seymour early this morning and destroyed a number of
business houses. The damage amounts to about $300,000 and is only half
covered by insurance. How the fire originated is not known. Among the
buildings burned are: the Union Hardware Company, Hoffman's Dry Goods
store, Spreen's Racket store, Hauenschild & Shutt Cigar and Tobacco store,
the Seymour Produce Co., and Hopewell's livery stable.
Heavy losses were also sustained by John Dehler, clothing and shoe merchant,
William Stratton, jeweler, and the Hodapp Hominy Company.
