For those of you who cannot afford these NARA applications, I would advise

RIDER, THE APPLICANT. SHE IS ABOUT 26 YEARS OF AGE. SHE WAS BORN IN OKLA. SHE
IS ENROLLED BY THE DAWES COMMISSION, # 2517 (FREEDMEN).
SHE GETS HER INDIAN BLOOD FROM BOTH PARENTS. SARAH VANN WAS THE NAME OF HER
MOTHER. SHE WAS SARAH SMITH BEFORE MARRIAGE.
HER FIRST HUSBAND WAS NAMED JOHN VANN. SHE HAS BEEN DEAD 2 YEARS AND WAS
ABOUT 52 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME OF HER DEATH. SHE WAS BORN IN THIS COUNTRY,
OKLAHOMA.
LILA MELTON WAS THE NAME OF MY GRANDMOTHER ON MY MOTHERS SIDE. SHE MARRIED
KEYS .
AND THEN SHE MARRIED A SMITH. IF HER GRANDMOTHER WAS LIVING SHE WOULD BE
ABOUT 75 YEARS OLD. SHE WAS BORN IN OKLA. JOE VANN WAS THE NAME OF HER
GRANDFATHER. I THINK HE WAS BORN IN THE EAST. I DON'T KNOW WHEN HE CAME WEST.
ON HER MOTHERS SIDE THEY WERE EMIGRANTS. THEY LIVED IN TAHLEQUAH DISTRICT IN
1851.
JACK SMITH WAS THE NAME OF HER GRANDFATHER ON HER MOTHERS SIDE. I DON'T KNOW
WERE HE WAS BORN. IF HE WERE LIVING HE WOULD BE ABOUT 80 OR 90 YEARS OF AGE.
HE WAS LIVING IN 1851.
LEWIS MELTON OWNED HER GRANDMOTHER AND THEN ISAAC KEYS OWNED HER. WEBBER
OWNED HER GRANDFATHER. THE SAME PEOPLE OWNED HER MOTHER.
JOHN VANN WAS THE NAME OF HER FATHER. HER FATHER WAS NEVER A SLAVE. HE WAS AN
INDIAN. HER PARENTS WERE NOT MARRIED BEFORE THE WAR. THEY GOT MARRIED
AFTERWARDS. LIZZIE TERRELL WAS THE NAME OF HER GRANDMOTHER ON HER FATHERS
SIDE. SHE DIED ABOUT THE TIME OF THE WAR. SHE WAS LIVING IN 1851.
LIZZIE TERRELL AND JOE VANN WERE LIVING TOGETHER IN 1851. JOE VANN LIVED IN
TAHLEQUAH DISTRICT. JOHN HAD NO BROTHERS AND SISTERS.
I DON'T KNOW WHETHER JOE HAD ANY BROTHERS OR NOT. JOE WAS MIXED BLOOD INDIAN
AND NEGRO. I DON'T KNOW ANY INDIAN NAMES THAT THESE PEOPLE HAD.
LIZZIE HAD A SISTER NAMED RACHEL TERRELL. SHE MARRIED BUT I DON'T KNOW TO
WHOM. HER MOTHER AND FATHER GOT THE WALLACE PAYMENT.
THAT WAS MONEY THAT WE COLORED FOLKS GOT AFTER WE SUED THE CHEROKEE NATION
FOR IT.
THEY PAID THE CHEROKEE INDIANS BUT NOT US COLORED FOLKS, SO WE SUED AND GOT
THE WALLACE PAYMENT.
THEY, THE VANNS WERE ON THE STRIP ROLL IN 1880 AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN RECONIZED
AS CHEROKEE INDIANS. I THINK LIZZIE TERRELL HAD A BROTHER NAMED JOHN TERRELL.
APPLICANT ASSOCIATES WITH THE COLORED PEOPLE OF THIS COMMUMITY.

THE INDIAN ROLL. AND TWO WE DRAWED OUR MONEY WITH THE INDIANS BY BLOOD ANS
THEY RECONIZED US AS INDIANS BY BLOOD.
FATHER HE IS ON THE 1880 ROLL. WE CHILDREN WAS IN THE INDIAN ROLL.
AND FATHER HE GOT KILLED AND SO MOTHER SHE HAD US TOOK OFF THE INDIAN ROLL
