I am looking for any information that you may be able to provide to me
regarding these two Companies of the Indiana Infantry. My GGrandfather, Job
Westfall served in those two companies. He enlisted in the 63rd on December 24, 1863
in Romney, Indiana, and when the number of survivors in the 63rd Indiana
dwindled due to injuries or death, he was transferred to the 128th Indiana in
either late 1864 or early 1865. He was mustered out at Raleigh, North Carolina,
in April of 1865.
He and his best friend (don't have a record of his name) enlisted together
and were listed as musicians. My ggrandfather's friend (would love to know his
name; I have been told that he was a casuality of the war) played the snare
drum and my ggrandfather was a fifer. My ggrandfather picked up his friend's
drum and carried it with him throughout the rest of the war until he mustered
out. My grandfather then passed these instruments down to my brother, who now
has the snare drum. and to me; I have the fife.
Have been looking for any information about or photos of these two companies.
Can anyone out there help me? Are there any journals that anyone may know of
for which there would be public access?
