Do civil war records or pension records list the soldiers
parents?
====================
Hi there!
Based on my own experiences with Civil War Pension files, the amount of vital information
given will vary from very little to "you've hit a home run".
Some of the things you will find in the files are affadavits confirming marriage
relationship to pensioner and what injuries they received during the war and confirmation
of the pensioner's death. Sometimes you'll find copies of marriage certificates,
names of children and parents. This last one is the best case scenario. I have two of
these in my stack of stuff. Either way its worth looking into.
You can either write to the National Archives, which I really don't recommend, or you
can hire a researcher to go in and do the lookups. I highly recommend the latter. Its
cheaper and you get the information quicker plus you don't have to hassle with the
National Archives' paperwork.
If you want to hire a researcher, I will be more than happy to give you a name off list.
Hope this helps! :-)
