Hi, Rick and welcome!
My husband's grandfather, John Robert Brown, enlisted in the Union Army in
Garrard Co., KY in 1861. He was mustered in at Smithland, KY and mustered
out in Louisville, KY. He was a resident of New Albany, IN, but enlisted in
KY. He was in the 20th Kentucky Volunteers. They fought at Shiloh among
other places. He was wounded in a battle and said to have a hole remaining
through one of his legs. He gained the rank of Sergeant. He is buried in
the National Cemetery in New Albany, IN.
