Without looking at the muster in date of the 152nd IN, I would imagine the
regiment reenlisted for another three years and at that time, the entire
regiment received a furlough of 30 days, thus allowing the brothers to go
together.

Subject: [IN-CIVIL-WAR] Furloughs
I have two brothers, Armenus and John Gilbert who served in the 152nd
Indiana Voluntary Infantry. During Sept/Oct of 1864 they were both
furloughed home. Would the army usually furlough them together or would it
take something unusual like a death in the family? I thind they had a
little (6 years old in 1860) die during the Civil War but can't find him in
any death records.
