The US IRS Tax Assessment lists have a John Hendricks of Shelbyville who is listed as a
Retail Liquor Dealer in Sept. 1864. I don't know if this means he was actually alive
then, or if they were just trying to collect tax then.
(Note: index says Henricks; image clearly says Hendricks). I don't know if this is
yours.
The Civil War Pension Index: General Index to Pension Files, 1861-1934 lists 5 women named
Sarah Hendricks whose husbands served:
Jacob W. Hendricks Sarah M. Hendricks
James C. Hendricks Sarah E. Hendricks
Joseph A. Hendricks Sarah E. Hendricks
Miles Hendricks Sarah J. Hendricks
William C. Hendricks Sarah F. Hendricks
If he'd died in the war I'd think she would have filed for a pension. I also see
no John Hendricks in that index who is listed as having a wife Sarah.
