Have you sent for his entire pension record? It cots $37.00, but will
give you his death date, marital status, and number of children, along
with their names and birth dates. If he was married it will also tell you
the wife's maiden name and when and where they were married. You may
order it online at

rds.html I have done this on 3 collateral relatives and gotten a treasure
trove of information, the stack of papers I have received has been about
1" thick. The biggest drawback is that almost everything is handwritten,
so depending on the penmanship of the writer, they can be difficult to go
through. But, it is definitely worth it. Good Luck!
