Bev--
In a Civil War database that I belong to (
www.civilwardata.com) there are 89
John Whites from Indiana who served in the Union forces. However, there is
one that is listed from Parke county:
John E. White
Residence Parke County;
Enlisted on 8/5/1862 as a Private.
On 8/5/1862 he mustered into "B" Co. IN 115th Infantry
He was Mustered Out on 2/25/1864 at Indianapolis, IN
SOURCE: Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Indiana
I would suggest that you go to a library and check out this source to see if
there is further information. Probably not about his person, but about the
troop.

I have a gut feeling that my GGgrandfather John White served in the
Civil
War. He was born in Parke county IN in 1840 and married Deborah Cooper in
1859. Their first child wasn't born until 1866 and the next 5 came pretty
fast. That's really all I have to go on. And there seems to have been
thousands of John Whites from Indiana in the war. Does anyone know what I
should do to go about finding MY John White? It doesn't seem right that
my
direct ancestors fought in the Revolution and then not again until
WWII!
