In the records taken out of Report of the Adjutant General of the State of
Indiana
http://www.civilwardata.com he is simply listed as deserted. No evidence of
being taken as a POW.
Dan Johnson
Wilson M Morris [born in MI, grew up in Union County] enlisted in
Henry
County [Greenboro Township] in the 36th Infantry, Company D in October
1861. He deserted 19 February 1862 when the Company was about to move [or
had started moving] from Camp Wickliffe, KY which is right by the
Mississippi River [I think].
I have very good reason to believe that Wilson M Morris became known as
William M Morris - but as yet have no proof.
Is there anywhere to find out if he was captured? [I have reason to
believe
that he was in St. Louis just after the war and that was a prison
locale].
Is there anything that anyone on the list is aware of that could help me
with this identity crisis? I do know that Wilson did not [as of 1870 and
1880] return to Indiana.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Cheryl
