Just wondering if anyone who is reading this might be descended from the
Quaker Cox and/or Musgrave families of Parke Co., Indiana. They lived up in the
Bloomingdale and Annapolis areas, but one was thrown out of the Quaker academy
for refusing to wear a dunce cap, so he continued his education in Montezuma.
These folks are my mother's people. I would love to hear from anyone who is
related to them or even knows anything about them. Two of my cousins, Jesse
Cox Musgrave and Joel Lyon Musgrave, were soldiers in Indiana regiments of the
Union Army. Jesse served in the 1st Indiana Heavy Artillery and had one of
his eardrums blown out for standing too close to the muzzle. This occurred
during a bombardment in Louisana. Joel Lyon served in the 11th Indiana Cav. and
went up against Nathan Bedford Forrest near the Harpeth River at the Battle of
Franklin, Tennessee, and lived to tell about it. It was said that he was "a
wiry little fellow."
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Most sincerely,
William R. (Bill) Massey of Lewisburg/Marshall County, Tennessee
