Frank J. Anderson, who is engaged in business as a realtorat 663 Farmers Trust
Building, South Bend, is a native son of St. Joseph County, where he was born September 2,
1876. His paents are Charles and Mary (Bennett) Anderson, the former of whom was born at
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1845, and the latter in Ohio. When still a young man Charles
Anderson went to Berrien County, Michigan, and from there came to St. Joseph County, where
he has since continued to reside. Early uniting with the Zion Evangelical church, he has
always continued active in church work. There were three children born to him and his
wife: Frank J., Edward and Charles, but Frank J. is the only survivor. During the Civil
War Charles Anderson served in the Union Army as a brave and loyal soldier for three years
and eight months, and was honorably discharged. For many years he has been a valued
member of the Grand Army of the Republic, and enjoys meeting his old comrades at the
different reunions. Growing up on a farm Frank J. Anerson attended the local schools
until he was seventeen years old, and had the further advantage of a course at the Keller
Business College. Mr. Anderson then entered the employ of the Woolworth chain stores, and
was in the store in Laporte, Indiana for three years, and then was assistant manager of
the store at South Bend for several years. In 1916 he severed his connection with this
enterprises and embarked in real-estate business, opening his present offices. From the
start he has been eminently successful, finding in this line of endeavor his life work.
Mr. Anderson owns some very valuable real estate and other property at South Bend, and is
a man of ample means, but all of his wealth has been earned through his own efforts. He
belongs to Tent No. I, K. O. T. M., and the South Bend Real Estate Board, the South Bend
Chamber of Commerce. Fully occupied with his business responsibilities he has never had
any political aspirations. June 29, 1899 Mr. Anderson was married to Miss Elizabeth Hyden
of South Bend, and they have one daughter, Irma, born February 28, 1907. She is now a
student of the South Bend High School, and is giving special attention to music for which
she possesses a decided talent.
