You can eliminate some of these because they enlisted AFTER your George
Weaver died. The clue would be to find your George Weaver in the census
records and see who his wife and children were. One of the children will
be your GGgrandparent. You can then trace forward to the point when you
start recognizing names. Or you can start with your parents and work
backwards in the federal census. Also, you should get a copy of the
probate record...such records are usually very useful in tracing a
family forward...
Thank you , but I have already found all the census records. The probate
entry does not list any names, just that the wife inherits. The will is missing
from the court house.
I know who the wife and children are and most of the line down.
I just can't find a date or place of death for him.
This is the probate entry.
Will filed November 18, 1862, Shelby County Indiana
Order Book #4, 1863
George P. Weaver
Comes Jeremiah Dungan and Absalom H. Ritchie the appraiser
heretofore appointed by the Clerk of this Court in vacation and present an
inventory and appraisment of all the estate, real and personal of said deceased which
reads as follows to wit (here insert) from which it appears that all the
estate of said deceased amounts to less than three hundred dollars. Whereupon
the Court order that said property vest in the widow of said deceased and the
no letters of administration on said Estate.
There is nothing else. Nothing was inserted in the jacket.
They owned no property, so there is no deed transfer. They lived right on
the county line between Shelby and Marion Counties Indiana.
The George Weaver listed in this Civil War record is the only possibility
listed.
Name: George Weaver
Residence: Marion County, Indiana
Enlistment Date: 19 June 1861
Distinguished Service: DISTINGUISHED SERVICE
Side Served: Union
State Served: Indiana
Unit Numbers: 543 543
Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 19 June 1861
Enlisted in Company A, 13th Infantry Regiment Indiana on 19 June 1861.
Died Company A, 13th Infantry Regiment Indiana on 22 September 1861
How would I find further information on this record to identify if it is the
right one or not? I would sure hate to order military recrods from NARA just
to find out it wasn't him. They are quite expensive. Is there a state
archives for military records?
