I took a look at the 1860 census for Indiana...there are several George
Weaver mentioned there. There is also a George Weaver in the Indiana
marriage records for 1848 married to a Hiatt. I also looked at Indiana
Civil War records and found:
George Weaver Cadiz, Indiana 8 Jan 1864 Indiana Union

You can eliminate some of these because they enlisted AFTER your George
Weaver died. The clue would be to find your George Weaver in the census
records and see who his wife and children were. One of the children will
be your GGgrandparent. You can then trace forward to the point when you
start recognizing names. Or you can start with your parents and work
backwards in the federal census. Also, you should get a copy of the
probate record...such records are usually very useful in tracing a
family forward...
Good luck,
John Ragle

I believe this is my GGGgrandfather. There is a probate record in
November,
1862, Shelby County, IN, but no date or place of death. According to the
regimental history, this person died in one of the skirmishes at Cheat
Mountain. How do I find more information on this record to prove if it was my
GGGrandfather or not?
