Hello Mark,
I have a Confederate soldier Christopher Columbus GOLDEN, Pvt. Co. C 63rd.
Inf. must in 12 May 1862 died 4 Mar 1863 in the Cumberlad Gap. Who do I get
in touch with to get info. on him and his widow and children. I can't find
them in Hawkins Co. TN.
His brother Burwin B. Golden was in the same Co. and Burwin was said to have
brought his body home for burial in Hawkins or where ever they lived at the
time. Cannot find any further info on any of his family.

One of my ancestors with the 85th Indiana died near Memphis, TN in 1863. His grave marker here shows he died in 1865. Was it the custom during or after the war to move a soldiers body back to his home ? Is he actually buried in the Memphis area with an empty grave with just a headstone here ?

Greetings:
The GODS AND GENERALS movie was released in Birmingham (Detroit), MI on Feb.
6 to a packed house. Jeff Daniels (born in Chelsea, MI) attends a primier
showing in Jackson, MI this weekend...$250 tickets to the movie with him and
an afterglow reception.
The movie is four hours long with an intermission. The movie is
great...much prayer throughout from Jackson (a large focus).

Dear list, I have that same problem. Where is my ancestor buried or do we
know?
Maybe some were not buried.

Kathleen;
Welcome aboard! If this list were not in my address book I too may have
forgotten it exists. When I do new postings I usually post to several lists
this one included. And I want to take this opportunity to say thanks and
recommend list member Mark Davis as a terrific Civil War resource. I had the
pleasure of meeting Mark in person and he has been a tremendous resource to
my research.

My name is Kathleen Burnett and I am your new List Mom. I want to take
a moment and let you know who I am and a little about myself and how I
work as a Mailing List Mom.
I am a mother of 4 and grandmother of 9.8. I work outside of the home
during the day. I am a list Mom to several other Mailing Lists. I am
very actively involved in my own family research. I am a hands on List
Mom, meaning I keep track of what is going on with the mailing list and
if you are ever in need of me during the day, while at work, you can
reach me at Kathleen.Burnett(a)era.com - in the evenings or on Sunday I
can be reached at KathleenBurnett(a)earthlink.net
My goal for your list is to keep it a safe place for you to research
post and share information regarding your ancestors of Indiana who
were involved in the Civil War. Safe meaning a place where you are not
subject to postings other than posting related to the subject of the
list.
For your information, the IN-CIVIL-WAR Mailing List has 79 members,
53 of these are subscribed to the Regular List and 26 to the Digest
List.
I have very few rules on my lists, the main one is to treat your fellow
members as you would like to be treated, Roll Calls will be called by
me, with a beginning date and a ending date and the posting of virus
warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current
events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. (in other words
- spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration
for exceptions, contact me, KathleenBurnett(a)earthlink.net
If you would like to visit the archived messages for this list you may
go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com and type in IN-CIVIL-WAR From
there you can search by date.
There is a great Rootsweb site, Password Central, you can go to if you
want to find out what Rootsweb lists you are a member of or need to
unsubscribe from a list, just follow the instructions.
http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/
I wish for each of you a success with your most difficult genealogical
mystery and I look forward to getting to know you.
