Mellisa Strobel...if you will go to
www.itd.ups.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm &
enter the last name (Finnen) & bring up Union in the box below the last name
you'll find a John Finnen listed for the 81st Ohio Inf. unit there. Actually
there are two Johns listed but only one for the unit you referr to. Couldn't
find anything on his wife, Elizabeth.
Hope this helps.....Harold Hash

Subject: John & Elizabeth Finnern of Greensburg, Decatur County
Greetings and salutations, all...
I need to find the burial locations of John and Elizabeth Finnern. Both
were
members of the 81st Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War.
Yes,
*both*. When the proper authorities figured out Elizabeth's true
identity,
instead
of sending her home or worse, they detailed her as a nurse for the
remainder
of the war. They are believed to be buried somewhere in the
Greensburg
area.
If anyone can supply a cemetery name or any other information for
that
matter, I'd be very sincerely grateful!
While I'm at it, if anyone can find Elizabeth's obituary in the Greensburg
News on July 19, 1907 entitled "Last Bugle Call", you'll be making several
researchers' days!
Many many thanks,
Melissa Strobel
