Exactly correct. Marble is chemically the same as limestone and is rapidly
dissolved by acid rain. Granite may become covered with lichen, but will
persist for millennia. Metal, as we've just seen on the list serve, may be
stolen. Composite, however, would begin to break down through chemical oxidation
starting shortly after it's made.

I was at O'Toole Monument dealer across from the West Point cemetery in
Liberty Indiana, their family have been in business since 1805. He took me
into the cemetery and showed me how 120 year old marble and granite stones
weather over the years.
The marble had eroded so that the streaks in it were now veins showing, and
were out 1/8 to 1/4 inch through weathering, while the granite showed no
weathering. He said in 1,000 years it would not be any. What is affecting
stones of today, especially marble, is acid rain. More pollution than ever
before. If you are interested in his pictures, e-mail me. Bob Alloway

The marble monument he pointed to was about 16 feet tall and in 1880, it
cost $1,800. Today it would cost over $100,000!

I presume you are making a joke.
Granite will outlast composite by millions of years.
