Recently I received an email from a rootsweb mailing list, and accidently deleted it
instead of replying to the email. I am not even sure it this was the right list, but hope
it was.
The topic of the email was the surname Gilliland or variant spelling and the county
Bartholomew in Indiana.
I discovered that the maiden name of my husband's great grandmother to be this name,
She was Martha Gilliland/Gilland/Gillard/Gillaud last name very difficult to read but
know it is similar to this. GILL is readable.
She married William White, where unknown, Martha was born about 1810 or 1820??
depending on census , in either VA or IN again depending on the census. William was born
about 1808 -1812 in VA. according to census.
1850, census, William White and Martha (Gilliland?) White were living in Bartholomew Co.
IN in Sand Creek township with children;
Martha born about 1840
James William born Aug. 1841
Vernilia born 1844/ 1846
1860 census, the family had moved to Sullivan Co. IN
I am putting together info on William and Martha WHITE based on census , etc info.
I lost William and Martha after the 1880 census in Sullivan Co. IN.
I do know that son James and wife Naomi (Waggoner) were buried in the country cemetery of
Palmers Prairie in Sullivan Co. IN
Hope someone was searching for the burial of any of these people.
