My great great grandfather John Mooney was supposedly buried in the IOOF
Cemetery in New Waverly on Sep 4, 1923. I'm trying to determine if there is
a stone still standing.

I'm looking for the burial site of James "Jim" Redmond born Dec 1895 in
Montgomery Co, TN. His last known place of residence was Greencastle,
Putnam, IN.
In the 1930's and 1940's he and his wife, Hazel, lived in Indianapolis,
Marion Co, IN. He was military and at one time was stationed at Fort
Benjamin Harrison. I have written to the Vital Statistics of Putnam Co,
visited the military base, written for burial information on him at a
possible military burial site and have not been able to find any evidence of
his demise. In checking SSDI I did find a James Redmond who met the
criteria for my uncle but after I received a copy of this SS application, I
discovered it wasn't my Uncle Jim's SS application.
Does anyone know if career military were required to sign up for Social
Security in the 1930's? If not, what kind of retirement plan would they be
able to purchase?

I'm looking for the burial site of the first wife of George W. AUSTIN.
Her name was Mary Ann Finley & she died in 1847, just after or
during giving birth to her youngest child, Mary AUSTIN.
I've located these AUSTIN graves in Palmyra, Harrison Co., IN cemetery
known as The Palmyra Cemetery.
George W. Austin - son of G.W. & R.A. Austin May 31, 1853
John W. Austin - son of G.W. & R.A. Austin , 3 MARCH 1862 to 11 AUG 1863
William E Austin - son of G.W. & R.A. Austin , 28 OCT 1851 to 5 SEPT 1855
George , husband of R.A. Austin, 29 FEB 1816 to 9 OCT 1893
Rebecca A. Austin, wife of George W. Austin, 28 NOV 1816 to 2 FEB 1892
This would not support Mary Jane & Liz's findings of George W. & Rebecca
Austin being in South Dakota in 1896, as they died in 1892 & 1893.
Other info all checks out, since marriage records show them getting married
on 15 JAN 1848. Deaths of these 3 sons are 1853, 1855 & 1863.
I found no record of burial for George Ws' (as I wrote that it sounded so
familiar -- George "W") oh well, as I was saying, I found no record
of burial for his first wife. Anyone know where Mary Ann Finley AUSTIN
is buried? She supposedly died in 1847.

Hi.
I am searching for information on my ggrandmother, Nellie Marie Baxter b 1890
possibly somewhere in northern Indiana. I just found out that she was raised
in Kokomo and lived there until she married my ggrandfather, Winfield Elliot
Cone. After that, she moved to Saginaw, MI where my ggrandfather had his
home. She eventually made her home in the Detroit area where she died in
1987. Unfortunately that's about all the information I have. Pls advise if
you know anything about her family.

I have g-g-grandparents( Henry S. and Mary A. (Pickett) Skinner) buried in
Old South Cemetery Frankfort, In. Clinton County

about this cemetery.
I have been to the library, no luck.
Any info. would be appreciated.

I have used this cemetery index a lot in my research. It is great. And no,
not everyone that is buried in these cemeteries is listed -- some are
missing. And I've been told about some wrong dates that are listed. But by
and large this is a great help in researching Hendricks County Indiana.

Hi again Mike,
In my previous message, I mentioned "cemeteries you had access to." What I meant
is the records that you have. I didn't want you to think I meant going around
and looking in the cemeteries. :) Thanks.

The following came to me on another list with permission to share if it is

double and tripple spaced. SOOOO I edited out all that junk and wa la out
came a readable transcription. I thought it worth the while to pass it on

Subject: [INMADISO-L] A New Years Resolution!
Hi Everyone! Happy New Year!
This suggestion is not only for new family history researchers but it also
serves to jiggle the minds of us old timers too! Let's all make a
resolution to help eliminate errors in our family history
In December 1999, I wrote the following article to help increase the
awareness of the many pitfalls found in genealogical resources. I am
submitting this again to remind us all of our responsibilities toward
perpetuating the truth and accuracy in our historical records.
(Reprint)
HOW ACCURATE ARE OUR RECORDS?
By LeRoy F. Eastes
3 December 1999
When we record our heritage we take great pride in looking at our list of
ancestors and admire their origins, migrations and accomplishments. But,
what good is it - unless it's true?
In recent years there are more and more genealogical assumptions and
misleading information being circulated due the coming of the internet. I
know most of it is unintentional, as I have found myself guilty of doing the
same thing in the past. This innocent practice comes about by picking up
information that is not documented or if it is we don't check the validity of
the references. Then with all good intentions, we record it and pass it on
not knowing if it is true or not!
An element of error has always existed in genealogical research. If we look
closely at public documents, errors have been found in almost every type of
legal record that ever existed. Wills, marriage, birth, land, court and
military records. Many times these are the results of human error but some
have been intentionally induced for a variety of personal reasons.
The coming of the internet has been a great boon for genealogical research.
At the same time it's multiplying errors and is out of control like a
contagious disease. There are many individuals and organizations that collect
files from donors everywhere they can be found, which in itself is fine.
Unfortunately, not all of these records are correct. Many do not show any
documentation, others are found with misleading and often inaccurate
information and references. Also unfortunately, some researchers are too
eager to grab the first thing that "sounds reasonable" and treat it as a
gospel fact. These records are copied by the unwary, passed on to an untold
number of others, accepted as fact and the problem is perpetuated into the
future.
.
There is nothing wrong with recording and passing along estimates of dates,
places and even theories and stories. This is where we find the key elements
that lead to the true picture of the past. However, information of this
nature must be recognized and treated as such by all of us.
This is a very serious problem and recognized by the National Genealogical
Society. They felt it to so important they published a Special Edition to
their quarterly publication, titled, "Evidence" - Volume 87, 3 September 1999.
The following are the Standards recommend by the Society and can be found on
the internet at -
http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/
(I suggest everyone take a look at Consumer Relations while
on this site)
Standards For Sound Genealogical Research
(Recommended by the National Genealogical Society)
Remembering always that they are engaged in a quest for truth, family history
researchers consistently -
~- record the source for each item of information they collect.
~- test every hypothesis or theory against credible evidence, and
reject those that are not supported by the evidence.
~- seek original records, or reproduced images of them when there is
reasonable assurance they have not been altered, as the basis for
their
research conclusions.
~- use compilations, communications and published works, whetherpaper
or electronic, primarily for their value as guides to locating the
original records.
~- state something as a fact only when it is supported by convincing
evidence, and identify the evidence when communicating the fact to
others.
~- limit with words like "probable" or "possible" any statement
that is
based on less than convincing evidence, and state the reasons for
concluding that it is probable or possible.
~- avoid misleading other researchers by either intentionally or
carelessly distributing or publishing inaccurate information.
~- state carefully and honestly the results of their own research,
and
acknowledge all use of others work.
~- recognize the collegial nature of genealogical research by making
their work available to others through publication, or by placing
copies
in appropriate libraries or repositories, and by welcoming critical
comment.
~- consider with open minds new evidence or the comments of others on
their work and the conclusions they have reached.
by National Genealogical Society. Permission is granted to copy or
publish this material provided it is reproduced in its entirety, including
this notice
This is followed by two more sections titled:
- Standards for Using Records Repositories And Libraries.
- Standards For Use Of Technology In Genealogical Research.
I encourage everyone to consider these guide lines. All of us who are
searching for our ancestors should make an attempt to minimize the
possibility of errors. If we don't, our children's children will be led down
false trails and they will never be able to find their true heritage.

In 1999 I visited the Painter Cemeter, which is NE of Middletown, Henry

I haven't forgotten about you, just been swamped. I'll do this lookup within the next
few days.
Sorry for the delay,
Elizabeth

Hi,
My name is Barbara and I am trying to find out a cementery in New Castle
where my grandpa and grandma are buried at. I have a feeling that my great
grandpa is buried there also.
Am trying to find Raleigh and Rozetta Spencer, my grandpa and grandma.
My great grandpas name was Cyrus Spencer. If any was has a listing for them I
would appreciate it as I am out in in Colo. and it is hard for me to get back
ther as money is tight.
Thanks a lot.
