Lester C. Whitsitt

Lester C. Whitsitt, 87, Carmi, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at Wabash
Christian Retirement Center in Carmi.
He was born May 17, 1920, in Crossville, the son of Hubert W. and Clara
(Ude) Whitsitt. On July 12, 1947, he married Anna E. Ruhl, and she survives.
Lester was a farmer, a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Carmi
and a member of the American Legion in Carmi. He was a World War II U.S.
Army veteran, serving as sergeant in Company F, 221st Battalion. He enjoyed
gardening and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and
Sharon Whitsitt, and a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Ron Sturm, all of
Carmi; two brothers and their wives, John and Jerri Whitsitt of Kansas City,
Kan., and Bill and Delores Whitsitt of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters and a
brother-in-law, Frances Whetstone of Carmi, and Jenny and Percy Lamont of
Florida; four grandchildren, Laura Whitsitt, Meredith Whitsitt, Tyler Sturm
and his wife, Sara, and Kalyn Sturm.
Lester is preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Clara Whitsitt; three
brothers, Kenny, Hubert, and Chester Whitsitt; and a sister, Elizabeth
Visitation was Monday morning at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi, where the
funeral was held at 1 p.m. Burial with military rites was in White County
Memorial Garden near Carmi.
Memorials may be made to either Wabash Christian Retirement Center or
Emmanuel United Methodist Church and will be accepted at Cook Funeral Chapel
