John O. Erkman, 86, died at 3:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at The Ridge
at Shawnee, in Lima, Ohio.
He was born Feb. 26, 1922 in Enfield to Edward and Agnes Lichtenberger
Erkman, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 27, 1944, he married Effie
Jeanette Chaney, who survives in Lima, Ohio.
Mr. Erkman graduated from Southern Illinois University with a master's
degree in physics. He retired from the Naval Surface Weapons Center in
Silver Spring, Md. John was a World War II Army veteran, serving in France.
His favorite pastimes included gardening and being with his pets.
Survivors also include two daughters, Jan Erkman of Martinsburg, W.Va., and
Esther and Mark Wangler, of Lima, Ohio; two grandsons, Dylan VanDyne and
Steven VanDyne, both of Lima, Ohio; and a brother, Chelsea and Pauline
Erkman of Enfield.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Erkman and Roy Erkman.
There will be no public visitation or service. Burial or cremated remains
will be in Enfield Cemetery at a later date.
