Darrell G. Hankins

Darrell G. Hankins, 71, of Carmi, Illinois, died Sunday, November 26, 2017,
at his home. He was born July 4, 1946, in Morganfield, Kentucky, the son of
Clyde and Hazel (Renshaw) Hankins. He married Glenda Browning on December
3, 1965, and she survives.
Darrell was a member of the First Christian Church in Carmi, and served as a
Technical Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During
high school, he was well known on the basketball court where he played
center position for the Carmi Bulldogs. Darrell always worked in the Carmi
area including the Carmi Times newspaper, So Good Potato Chips, Martin and
Bailey Health and Beauty Aids, Malone and Hyde HBA Division, Frito-Lay, and
finally at HLS Home Medical. His greatest joy was his grandchildren.
Survivors include his mother, Hazel Winter of Carmi; son Louis Hankins of
Harrisburg, Illinois; daughters Jana (Jeff) Bradshaw of Carmi, Jill (Ben)
Talley of Florence, Kentucky; sister Marcia (David) Coston of Carmi;
grandchildren Kayleigh Hankins, Evan Talley, Ava Talley, Olivia Talley,
Broden Bradshaw, Sharea Overman, Ethan Bradshaw; and great grandchildren
Wren Overman and Emmett Overman.
Visitation is 5-7 pm, Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Cook Funeral Chapel
in Carmi. Funeral is 10 am, Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Cook Funeral
Chapel. Burial with military rites is in White County Memorial Gardens near

Julie Melton, 57, of Carmi passed away at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, November 26,
2017 at her residence. She was born in Elmhurst, IL on June 7, 1960 the
daughter of Robert Louis and Patsy Ellen (Moore) Duvall. Julie was a
homemaker and a member of the Crossville Missionary Baptist Church.
Julie is survived by her son, Adam Melton, of Carmi; father and
stepmother, Bob and Inez Duvall, of Carmi; sisters, Diana (Ferrell) Anderson
and Jami (Josh) Tucker both of Carmi; stepbrother, Arthur (Debbie) Koker, of
Martin, TN; two stepsisters, Angela (Marty) Carter, of Enfield and Debbie
(Dennis) Ruschel, of Claysville, PA; granddaughter, Kayla Melton "Baby Girl"
and several nieces, nephews and one great-nephew. She was preceded in death
by her mother Pasty Duvall and a son Brent Alan Thomas.
Funeral services for Julie Melton, 57, of Carmi will be held at 11:00
a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi; Burial
will be in Kingdom Cemetery in Carmi. Visitation will be on December 2, 2017

Edward Norman, 69, of Crossville passed away at 6:20 a.m., Sunday, November
26, 2017 at his residence. He was born March 2, 1948 in Jackson, TN the son
of Clark W. and Lois (Hunter) Norman. Edward married Lucretia A. Hogue on
July 26, 1968. He had worked as a diver doing underwater construction and
Edward is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lucretia; two daughters,
Amy (Don) O'Hara of Huntsville, AL and Angie (Shawn) Glover of Hanceville,
AL; a son, Jeff Norman of Crossville; a brother, Jim Norman of Hartselle,
AL; and three grandchildren, Abrey Anna Norman and Chloe and Carsyn Glover.

Donald D. Coston, 93, of Elizabethtown, KY, and formerly of Carmi, IL,
passed away at 11:15 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Hardin Memorial
Hospital in Elizabethtown.
He was born May 12, 1924 in Emma Township, White County, IL, the son of
John Franklin Coston and Helen Pearl Callicotte Coston. He married Anna L.
Bates in Enfield on August 20, 1947, and they were married for 68 years,
until her passing in 2016. Don was a veteran of World War II, and had a
great love for his country. He was a truck driver for Cox Oil Company in
Carmi for 43 years. He was a ham radio enthusiast (K9RZP), and spent his
later years in his workshop, building birdhouses and craft items for his
daughter and her friends.
Don is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne Coston Moss and
Steven Moss of Elizabethtown, KY, a sister, Mildred Jamerson of Carmi, a
sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Jim Ridenour of Crossville, IL, along
with many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Bates Coston, two brothers,
Melvin Wayne Coston and Doyle Ray Coston, and a sister, Dorothy May Coston.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at
Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in White County Memorial
Garden in Carmi with military rites by the Carmi VFW and American Legion.

November 21, 1925 ~ November 21, 2017 (age 92)
Clinton Everett Clark, 92, of Carmi, passed away at 9:51 p.m., Tuesday,
November 21, 2017 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi. He was born in
Enfield, IL on November 21, 1925 the son of Curtis Eldred and Ethel
(McCarthy) Clark. He married Betty Winkleman on June 22, 1947 and she
preceded him in death on March 16, 2011. Clinton was a US Army veteran
serving during WW II. He had worked maintenance for Contel.
Clinton is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Oliver and Debbie Hon
both of Carmi; son, Marty Clark of Carmi; eight grandchildren, John Oliver,
Jollee Cleveland, Jason Oliver, Patrick and Kyle Hon and Zack, Holly and
Linzy Clark; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
wife, Betty Clark, his parents, Curtis and Ethel Clark, two brothers, Curtis
and Cupel Clark and five sisters, Hope Williams, Violet Miller, Clover
Jugan, Love Dunaway and Dixie Shawhan.

Pamela Dee Perry, 53, of Carmi, passed away at 2:17 p.m., Tuesday, November
21, 2017 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, IL. She was born on
April 3, 1964 the daughter of J.E. Wray and Marilyn (Staley) Funkhouser.
She married Randy W. Perry in April 2006. She was a mother, housewife and

Charles Frederick Pierce
May 9, 1916 ~ November 18, 2017 (age 101)
Charles Frederick Pierce, 101, of Carmi passed away at 1:25 p.m., Saturday,
November 18, 2017 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi. He was born in
Phillips Township, IL on May 9, 1916 the son of Joseph Zabud and Catherine
Elizabeth (Gabel) Pierce. Frederick worked in the Del Monte Canning Factory
from 1950 to 1976 before going to work as a grain farmer. He served his
country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Signal Services.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including locally, Patsy
(Walter) Stahl of Burnt Prairie and Diane (Paul) Burch of Zionsville, IN; a
sister-in-law, Marge Pierce of DeKalb, IL: and numerous great nieces and
nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Frederick was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Dorothy
Duffin; and three brothers, Amos B., Thomas A. and John Franklin Pierce.

Steven Lee Smith
February 20, 1984 ~ November 16, 2017 (age 33)
Steven Lee Smith, 33, of Carmi, passed away at 11:35 a.m., Thursday,
November 16, 2017 at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville,
KY. He was born in Carbondale, IL on February 20, 1984, the son of Tracy
Steven and Leanna (Kinnear) Smith. He was raised by Don Cruse. Steven was a
2003 graduate of Carmi White County High School and went on to attend Wabash
Valley College on a baseball scholarship. He worked for Precision Oil
Company in Olney, IL. Steven excelled in sports being a four sport letter
recipient in football, basketball, baseball and track in high school.
Steven is survived by his mother, Leanna (Doug) Little, of New Harmony,
IN; three sons, Blayne, Jace and Greyson; sister, Chrissy Smith, of Carmi;
grandparents, Joe and Iona Hall and Stephen and Diana Smith, of Carmi;
nephews, Mason and Easton, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was
preceded in death by his father, Tracy Smith and his dad, Don Cruse.

2017 at his home. He was born March 28, 1950 in Enfield, the son of Gilbert

Mary Kathleen Keasler McCaleb Smith
December 11, 1927 ~ November 9, 2017 (age 89)
Katie McCaleb, 89, of Fairfax, Virginia died Thursday, November 9, 2017 at
Fairfax INova Hospital. She was born in Omaha, Illinois on December 11,
1927 to Dean Keasler and Clara Mitchell Keasler. Katie was a wonderful and
loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She truly enjoyed
cooking and baking for her loved ones. She married Bill McCaleb in 1947 and
they lived together in New Haven, Illinois, Barryton, Michigan, Fairfield,
Illinois, and Englewood, Florida until his passing in 2008. Then, Katie
moved back to Ridgway to be near her family. In 2013, she and Bill Smith
married and lived in Sparta, Illinois until Bill moved to a nursing home in
2016. Her daughter and granddaughter were thankful she spent her remaining
time with them in Fairfax, Virginia.
After serving in World War II, Bill McCaleb met and worked with Bill Smith
in New Haven, Illinois and their families became lifelong friends. Kate and
Bill Smith married in 2013 after the passing of their first spouses.
In Fairfield, Katie was a member of the First Christian Church. Katie and
Bill McCaleb joined and helped build Englewood East Church of Christ where
Bill served as a Deacon. She was also a member of the Daughters of the
Katie is survived by her husband, Bill Smith and his children and
grandchildren; daughter, Mary Irwin; granddaughter, Heather Irwin; brother
Herdis "Pete" Keasler's children and grandchildren; sister Wanda Keasler
Ukena's children and grandchildren; and grandson, Joshua McCaleb. Her sons,
Stephen McCaleb and David McCaleb passed away in Florida and it was her wish
that their ashes be buried with her.
Her service will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Cox and Son
Funeral Home, 209 S Jarrell Street, Ridgway, Illinois. Visitation is from
noon until time of service at 2:00 p.m. with Minister Earl Young of
Fairfield, Illinois officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery,
Norris City, IL immediately following her service.

Beulah Maxine Greer

Beulah M. Greer, 97, of Carmi, Illinois, died Wednesday, November 1, 2017,
at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi. She was born August 9, 1920, in Gibson
County, Indiana, the daughter of Louis D. and Emma Pearl (Lumm) Haggard. She
was married to Willie A. Grubb in 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1958.
She later married George W. Greer in 1975, and he also preceded her in death
Beulah was a homemaker and a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of
First Christian Church in Carmi, and worked with the American Cancer
Society. Other memberships include the women's auxiliaries of the Veterans
of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. She also enjoyed playing in the
ladies golf league.
Survivors include stepson Lewis (Judy) Greer of Arizona; daughters Karolyn
E. DePasque, Patricia (Keith) Gross, and Christine Talley, all of Carmi;
grandchildren Karleen (David) Sullivan, Matt (Christy) Gross, Mitch (Mary
Ann) Gross, Ben (Jill) Talley, Kate (Justin) Simmons, Heather Talley Price;
13 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; stepson Bill Greer;
brother Louis "Dink" Haggard; sisters Virgie Racine, Doris Morrow and Evelyn
Visitation is 5-7 pm, Friday, November 3, 2017, at Cook Funeral Chapel in
Carmi. Funeral is 10 am, Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Cook Funeral Chapel

born in Hamilton County, IL the son of Helena Wooten. Harold loved
listening to Charley Pride music, playing video games and watching TV and

Elaine DeLap, 62, of Norris City passed away at 3:12 p.m., Monday, October
30, 2017 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado, IL. She was born in Eldorado, IL
on August 21, 1955 the daughter of Donald and Sylvia (Grant) Beasley.
Elaine married John E. DeLap on November 10, 1979. She was a homemaker and
active member of the Norris City Lions Club where she was serving as
President. Elaine was active in Boy Scout Troop #345 and enjoyed cooking
for scouting events. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, camping
and liked to sew.
Elaine is survived by her husband, John Delap; daughter, Cassie Delap, of
Enfield; three sons, John Taylor, William (Heather) and Ethan Delap, all of
