Just a note that the Norris City public library is back in the genealogy
business, although their computer terminal for genealogy research isn't set up
yet. They have an interesting collection of local resources, and especially
the notebooks of Ira Shain on many Indian Creek families.

I am really at a dead-end on searching for my Thomas Pryor who died in White

an index - that might help me locate an obit or related article?? He
supposedly died of a head injury suffered in a sandlot baseball game.

IF there is someone out there who has White Co Cemetery Records, I would be

<< CHISM, >>
I was reading your query to the White County Rootsweb and I see you also have
Chism in your line. It is in my Mothers line in a "round about way." My
GGrandfather Isaac Hurst or as it is known in White County, Illinois as Hust.
Why, I don't know, but. Anyway, Issac's first wife was a Nancy Starkey.
Nancy's sister Elizabeth married a John Chism, in August 13, 1811 in
Tennessee. They were some of the earliest settlers in White County. John and
Elizabeth both died in White county, and are buried in the Brown Cemetery,
outside (east) of Carmi. My GGrandfather is buried there as well. John and
Elezabeth had to my count 10 children.Henreitta, James, John, Eliza, Rachel,
William, Nancy, Mary, Sarah, and Margaret.
I also have some Jones in my line. Also Graves, Williams, Davis.
If you are interested, I would be most happy to send you what I have.
The 1807 Indiana Territorial Census, for Randolph County, Illinois
Territory, lists only two Davis': James and Richard, and one Bissell:
My great grandfather, Thomas M. Davis, was born in Illinois in 1799/1800.
He named a son James Bissell Davis, leading me to believe Thomas may have
been a son of either James or Richard Davis, and that his mother may have
been a Bissell.
Does anyone have any information relating to the three men, or to any
Davis/Bissell family known to have been in Illinois before 1807?
Thanks in advance for any related information.
I believe many families used the name Bissell as a middle name for their
children. If I am not mistaken, a gentleman of that name was governer of the
State in the early 1800s. I could be mistaken on the governor, but he was a
well known individual, possibly congressman or senator.
