This morning I lookup family trees to see why you are so confused. William A Perry was not
Lewis's son but his father with the wrong birth date. The 1850 and 1860 census will
give you about the right year. This is why I cannot stress enough everyone to learn to do
research and not believe those little waving leaves as fact. You need to always document
your own work to see if you agree. Without the records you will be stressed or in
distress. If the census record says born 1860 then usually it is 1859 as the instructions
state how the census for that year is to be taken. There are different criteria for each
census about how it was constructed and taken. This info is on the bottom of the census
in all the small print when you print them off or read the reference for the census. Your
records are a best friend in genealogy.
