I thought I would let everyone know several boxes of information on Perry
County and misc items has been donated to the DuQuoin Public library. There
is quite a few items such as some plat books, family research, misc
newspaper clippings, cemetery information and much more is included in them.
I briefly went into some of it just to see what there was included. I seen
several pictures of a 2 story brick building with horses and men standing
along side a fence, a old wooden building looks like school house or church
maybe with people near building maybe for a picnic and tombstones in very
front. Niether of the pictures give any details who, what or where on them.
Maybe someone could id them. Some old elementary school postcard style
photo's from way back also included.
There was also a City Directory dated 1914-1915 for DuQuoin it is loaded
with all kinds of helpful genealogy information there was information even
on postal rural routes in Elkville, Christopher and Pinckneyville in this
one that includes the residents names.
Also donated by a different family was many scrapbook pages with clippings
from the Perry County region's newspapers. These range in years but very
interesting as well.
Thankfully these families donated all these items rather than just toss them
out in the trash.
Please remember to tell your family/friends what your wishes are to do with
your research materials should something happen to you.
The local libraries and genealogy societies really appreciate and accept all
materials donated to them in the genealogy area.
