How usefull are obits? I have researched births, deaths, and marriages at
the county clerks. Now I don't know where to look. I'm thinking obits
would be good or maybe wills. Where do you start looking for obits or
wills? My family is from the Swanwick area.
Thanks for suggestions.
Doing research on the following family. Anyone researching the same, please
contact Linda Dean, Dean537(a)aol.com Would love to share info!
Abraham DEAN married Clarissa MOORE in 1852 in Jackson Co., IL. Their
children include: Osiah, Archilles, Rhoda, Frances Cordelia, Samuel, Joshua
and maybe Benjamin.
Can't find them in 1860, anywhere. Possibly Abraham born in St. Clair Co.
Abraham died in Civil War in 1864. Clarissa and kids lived in Franklin Co in
1867, Joshua born in Perry Co in 1865 AND family in Hamilton Co 1870 census.
In Jackson Co in 1880.
They got to know all of So ILL!
I am seeking information about Malinda V. Fulton who married Matthew
Turner Helvey on April 5, 1875 in Pinckneyville, Illinois. I believe
that Malinda was born in 1857 in Illinois and died in Pinckneyville in
1879 and her family could have been emigrants from Ireland. Malinda and
Matthew's children were Cyrus Gentry (my grandfather), Malinda (Keller),
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I am seeking information concerning Sarah Davis who married Henry Helvey
on December 2, 1846 in Perry CO. Sarah was born in 1820? in Virginia
and was also married to ?Williams and Joseph Bruitt. According to the
1850 Perry CO. census her children were Mary J. Williams (age 13),
Jackson Williams (age 10), Virginia Bruitt (age 5), Matthew T. Helvey
(age 2--my great grandfather), and John Helvey (age 3 mo.). Other known
children were Malissa, Thomas Albert, Cyrus Henry, and Charles C. (all
Helveys). Also, according to the census there were other Davises living
in the vicinity with her and Henry. They were Ann (age 65), Reuben (age
22), and John (age 19).
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Does anyone know the name of the Coal Mine just east of Willisville, between route
4 and route 152? Perhaps years of operation?
Or how about the coal mine just north of Percy, Randolph County that seems to span
the Randolph/Perry County line? On my map it looks like it is just north of the
Streamline Hunt Club. West of route 150, east of Mary's River and the railroad,
south of route 154 and north of route 16? Again anything known of years of
Is there a resource I can contact or reference book I can read about coal mining
in this area? Perhaps lists of employees? Owners names? accidents? years of
Any guidance or assistance would be wonderful.

Does anyone know Marilyn JONES of DuQuoin, Illinois? Do you have an address or
e-mail address for her? Is she listed in the current phone book?
The history item for my 2nd great grandfather/mother (SLUSHER/MATHIS) for the new
Perry County History Book was submitted by Marilyn Jones of DuQuoin, Illinois.
She must be a cousin of some sort, but I can't figure the connection and don't
have a way of contacting her. It sounds like she has information I don't have,
and I have some she may not have. I would love to get in touch with her.
