Prior to a recent trip I unsubscribed to this list. Since then I have found
additional information about my family. I am hoping someone knows something
about these families.
Anna Marie Vandling married William Carter. They resided in Northumberland
Co., PA. They had 4 children. Mary, James, Joseph and Catherine June. Mary
married James Black, James married a Girton, Joseph married a Kennedy and
Catherine married a Girton. William Carter died and Anna Marie married
Christian or Christopher Shell. They also had 4 children, Christopher, Peter
and 2 others. Apparently Christopher also died in PA.
From what I can gather, there was a mass movement from Northumberland
to Dixon, IL about 1854. Anna and Peter were among them. Daughter Mary
Carter who married James Black in Columbia Co. PA ( just next to
Northumberland) also came to Dixon. They had buried one child, Robert, in
Northumberland, brought sons William and David with them. Daughter Mary Ann
was born in Dixon in 1855.
James and Mary Black migrated further to Jasper Co., MO. Anna and Peter end
up there too, but there is some indication they went to Ft. Scott Kansas
first. The 1860 census also also shows David Black and another possibly
brother. Initial illegible.
James apparently also had a sister who married a Jones, as John Jones shows
up in Jasper County in 1880 as a boarder in a household, while his 2 children
are living in James and son William's 2 households as a niece and cousin.
Both children are born in Illinois.
Can anyone tell me anything about these families?
