Hello. I am looking for information about John H. MORRIS and his wife
Delia Hoagland Morris. They lived in what was Gallatin County and is now
Carroll County, Kentucky in the early 1800's and according to a book
ANCESTRY OF GRAFTON JOHNSON (1924), they moved to Lawrenceville, Illinois
where he was a hatter. The book says that Morris had a correspondence with
future president William Henry Harrison and it says that Morris was an
ancestor of Delia Hiskey of Lawrenceville and Lincoln DuBois of
Springfield. I'd like more information about Morris, his wife and their
descendants, and also where they are buried. Perhaps the cemetery book is
all you have at hand to check for me, but any information would be
appreciated.
I'm told that a Gen. John H. Morris, born February 3, 1780, In Hanarlier
Co., Va., died
December 20, 1851, is buried in Lawrenceville Cemetery. And that birth
year is in the right range. I'm also told that there is a stone in the
cemetery with no dates, but with the names Adelia Hiskey, Joseph Hiskey,
Oaklly Hiskey, and Ida Hiskey.
The John H. Morris I am interested in was the son of a famous Baptist
minister Rev. Joshua Morris and his wife, Sarah Walton [Watkins], a neice
of George Walton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
Anyone have any information on John H. Morris, or any information about
what John was a general of?
Bill Davis
