Immigrant passenger records show the Kiel family arriving in Baltimore 23 August 1887 from
Bremen, Germany. The husbands name is transcribed by Ancestry as "Het" Kiel
with wife Sophia, daughter Sophia, and son Henri. Each generation after this man has a
son named Henry. It is my suspicion that the listing of the man's name is an
abreviation for Henry.
Sophia, his wife is found in the 1900 Jackson County, IL census with children Henry,
Sophia, Adolph, Inetta, and William. "Het" or Henry is not found. The youngest
son, William, was born July 1898 so one could assume that "Het" died sometime
prior to his birth.
My query concerns the record of the death of any "H" Kiel around 1897-1898.
Can someone give me an idea of how I might find a record of his death? Or perhaps some
tax or property record that would confirm his actual given name?
Thank you very much.
