War Commission Recommendation and Acceptance.

Major Cornelius G. WARD commissioned by you having died June 15th 1863
of wounds received in the Battle before Vicksburg Miss. May 22nd 1863, I
would recommend that you commission as Major, Capt. Thomas HIGHTOWER Co.
"B" 81st Regt. Capt. HIGHTOWER is the ranking captain of the Regt. And
worthy of the position his rank entitles him. He has been with the
Regiment on all of the Battlefields of the present campaign. His
coolness and bravery in time of Battle is not excelled by any. He is a
