I found this gem of a news item while looking through some Missouri
newspapers. This particular article was found in a Liberty Missouri
newspaper. Since I don't know which counties it may belong in Illinois, I
am sending it to the list. Please forward it to any mail list and/or post
it to any GenWeb page you feel may benefit from the information. All I ask
is that you retain the direct link to the article as it is posted on my
site.

Article Title: The Far West
Article Date: September 15 1836
Article Description: To The Public
Article Text:
To The Public,
My husband, Thomas O. Metcalf, left me in Kentucky in August, a year ago,
and I was to meet him in St. Louis, in September following; since then I
have been unable to learn any thing of him, either in St. Louis or
elsewhere. I have a brother by the name of John W. Maxwell, and a
Brother-in-law by the name of Amos Vertreese living, I think some where in
Illinois, whom I wish to go to. Any person who will give me information of
any or either of the above persons, and where they reside, will confer a
favor on me, and my 5 small children, who are now dependent on the charity
of others for support. Information sent to Frankfort, Pike County,
Missouri, will reach me.
Lucretia E. Metcalf.
