I've "rescued" a group of three photographs belonging to the COLE, TAYLOR,
and SMITH Families including:
1 - Catherine Matilda COLE TAYLOR who was the daughter of Allen John COLE
and Eliza Ann KING, photograph taken at the McGhie Studio in Columbus, KS
likely in the 1890's or early 1900's with Catherine appearing to be 50's at
2 - Walter Perry TAYLOR taken at the Stover Nelson Studio in Syracuse, NE.
Taken in the 1880's or early 1890's, Walter appears to be in his 20's at the
3 - Zelma SMITH daughter of Frank Sherman SMITH and Perla Ann TAYLOR, notes
that she was born in Miltonvale, KS and died in Island Co., WA, the
photograph was taken at the C. I. Lehmer Studio
Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information
regarding this family:
Catherine Matilda "Kate" COLE was b. 31 Mar 1842 in Austinburg, OH to Allen
John "AJ" COLE (1806-1885) and Elizabeth or Eliza Ann KING (1811-1873) who
were married 12 Nov 1829 in Darien, GA. Kate was one of 10 children born to
this couple including, Charles Perry; John Nathaniel; Henry; Henry C.; Jane
L.; Ellen; Jane; Catherine Matilda; Mary Elizabeth; and Emma Amelia COLE,
all born between 1830 and 1848.She married Jeremiah "Jerry" TAYLOR in 1868
in Boone, IL and they had a son, Walter Perry TAYLOR (1871-1946) and a
daughter Perla Ann TAYLOR (1870-1956). After her husband died she married
Levi WILLIAMS. Kate died 20 Apr 1900 in Coupeville, WA and is buried at the
Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville, WA.
Walter Perry TAYLOR was b. 31 Dec 1871 in Capron, IL son of Jeremiah & Kate
TAYLOR came to Coupeville, WA in 1901 and married Mary A. LOHSE (1881-1961)
on 27 Aug 1917 in Bellingham, WA. They had a son, Walter Wilbert TAYLOR
(1919-1995). Walter Perry TAYLOR died 26 Aug 1946 in Oak Harbor, WA and is
buried in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville, WA.
Carrie Zelma SMITH was b. 14 Apr 1891 in Milton Vale, KS to parents Franklin
Sherman Eli SMITH (b. 1865) and Perla or Pearl Ann TAYLOR (1870-1956) who
were married 25 Oct 1893 in Portland, OR. Carrie was one of three children
born to this couple including Carrie Zelma; John Lester; and Laura Irene
SMITH, all born between 1891 and 1894. It appears that Carrie's Father was
previously married and had a son Jesse Eli SMITH (1886-1942) and that her
Mother married a second time and had three additional children including,
Arthur Edwin; Walter; and Robert Byron BLACK born between 1904 and 1910.
Carrie married David Edgar BYRD (1888-1969) on 28 Aug 1909 in Victoria, BC
and they had two children, Coda Irene; and William Elmer BYRD born in 1910
Carrie it appears married a second time to Mark Manderville WASHBURN
(1888-1978) and they had two children, Edith WASHBURN (b. 1917); and Maurine
Madge WASHBURN (1922-2006). Carrie also married a third time to Franklin
Gerald George WILSON (1892-1947) and they had a daughter, Cecile Elizabeth
WILSON (1928-1934). Carrie died Dec 1968 in Coupeville, WA.
I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that these precious old
photographs can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of
this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
