SUDDEN DEATH OF LADY WELL KNOWN IN PAYETTE
The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Wood of this city were shocked and surprised to
learn on last Thursday of the death of their daughter, Mrs. G. M. Fripp at Hot Lake,
Oregon, where she had entered a sanitarium for treatment. While her friends in this
community had known that for some time she had been quite ill and also that she had been
taken to Hot Lake for treatment from her home in Grand Forks, B.C., yet none of them
expected the sad news of her death four hours after the performance of an operation.
Clara Marion Wood was born at East Smithfield, Pennsylvania, December 26th, 1876. She
came to Payette with her father and mother in 1898 making her home here with them until
September 6, 1905, when she was happily wedded to Mr. G. M. Fripp and went to live in
Grand Forks, B.C., where her husband held the position as president of the British
American Trust Company.
The remains were brought to Payette on Friday afternoon and the funeral services were held
at the Christian church in charge of Minister Peters. The throng of tearful friends and
the numerous beautiful floral tokens told more clearly than can words of the respect and
esteem with which Clara Wood was held by her friends in Payette. Interment was made in
Mrs. Fripp leaves to mourn her loss a loving husband and a year old baby, a doting father
and mother, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Wood of this city, one brother, Clinton Wood, two sisters,
Mrs. A. S. Soule and Mrs. John A. Harader both living in Payette.
