Go to the BLM Land Records site: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/
Click on Search Land Patents on the green bar.
Select the state Idaho then put in Peter Silk's name. You will find two Land Patents
for Gooding. The first he had 40 acres and the second Land Patent he had 120 acres.
Select the Legal Land Description site of the first one.
Go to: http://www.esg.montana.edu/gl/trs-data.html
At the top select Idaho, Boise Meridian in the pull down menu. In the Township slot put 5
then change the North to South. In Range put 15. East should be selected. In section put
32. Select Submit.
This will give you information about the land. The closest place is the Pioneer cemetery
and the Gooding Highschool. Now click on Switch to TerraServer. (This is just before the
section that says "Nearby Named Places".) Click on Topo Map and then the largest
size block. You will now see the map in red squares (sections). The 32nd section will be
to the right of Section 31. If you pan in on that section, you will see the number 32. It
seems to be NE of the town of Gooding. He owned 1/16th of that section on the NE of the NE
corner. At least that is how I read it.
The last part looking for the section can be difficult. Each section is 640 acres.
Repeat the steps with the second land patent.
I hope this isn't confusing and that you can figure it out.
I also happened to come across newspaper articles concerning Martin and Peter Silk in the
Idaho Statesman newspaper. One is quite tragic. (Dec. 27, 1893) If you would like to
e-mail me personally, I would be glad to pass them on.
