Thanks for sharing Matt. The cover photo on Gena Philibert-Ortega's book
'Cemeteries of the Eastern Sierra' caught my eye. It's of Bodie,
California. My wife and I had the good fortune to visit Bodie over thirty
years ago. The town is maintained in a state of preservation, that is to
say the state works to keep it just as it was when abandoned. Their
cemetery was actually three different ones: the Miner's Cemetery, the
Masonic Cemetery and Ward's Cemetery. William S. Bodey, original discoverer
of gold in the bluff to the East of town is buried in Ward's cemetery.
However, the most famous or at least most well known is that of Rosa May
Olalque. The present headstone was erected in the mid-sixties, and is
believed to be located a little distance from where Rosa May was buried
"outside" the boundaries of the other cemeteries. Rosa was a prostitute and
it was felt she shouldn't be buried inside the cemetery with the other good
folk. So, her headstone was erected just outside the boundaries of the
Ward's plots.
I was fortunate my dad's "girlfriend" made a scrapbook of events they
attended over a period of several years. Ephemera is fascinating! It's
great browsing, but the menu's with thirty-five cent steaks, or eighty-five
cent meals is a little depressing!!!!! Thanks for sharing. VR. Mags

Do you have anything to share with me? I love reading these kind of things.
Happy Genealogy Hunting!!!
