Eva Skully Canfield Martin was a gold miner in Florence, Idaho for
many years. I believe in the 1930's-50's. She owned several mining claims in
Florence and in the Salmon River Mining District. Her cabin still stands in Florence. I
haven't come across any articles about her mining but have about her being a census
taker. I do have access to the Mining Records for Idaho County if you are looking for
anyone there.
She was one of the census takers for Idaho County for 1930 and 1940 federal census and
the 1935 farmers census. In the 1940 census she was in her 60's and had to travel the
back country on snow skiis. There were news articles about her from Spokane to New York.
