I spent the morning in the state archives & Rod House invited us all for a tour so
we're familiar with their holdings. They're continously adding on-line data bases.

S. Idaho deputies investigate cemetery clearing
The Associated Press • Published May 05, 2009
MURTAUGH, Idaho – The Twin Falls County sheriff's office is investigating whether a
farmer desecrated a cemetery when he uprooted trees and cleared other materials.
Deputies on Monday looked through debris cleared last week by Darrell Funk from the
Artesian City Cemetery. The town existed for about three decades in the early 1900s.
Murtaugh Mayor Dee Hunsaker said he asked Funk to clear the site as part of a plan to
improve the cemetery that includes surveying the site
and fencing it.
Hunsaker, who filled out a statement for deputies, said Murtaugh officials are trying to
honor the dead.
But nearby residents said gravestones were damaged and some of the trees that were removed
served as grave markers.
"Those were as good as headstones," Mychel Matthews told The Times-News.
Matthews said there are as many as 40 graves at the cemetery.
A researcher with The USGenWeb Project who visited the cemetery in 2003 and 2008
documented eight names. The USGenWeb Project helps people trace their roots, including
documenting names in cemeteries.
