Hello everyone,
Just want to brag a little. My buddy and I (we're the two assistant
librarians) put together a lovely little float for the Cherry Festival this
year--and we won the Mayor's trophy!
The theme of the festival was "Storybook Dreams" so we figured we had to
participate. Without using any of the taxpayers' money, Loretta and I put
together the float for under $100 and many hours of labor and under 60 hours
of volunteer labor. We're pretty happy campers.
On a flatbed trailer, we put a bed and built a canopy over it. Around the
bed we put all the paraphernalia which would be found in a kid's bedroom,
including the clothes basket and dirty socks, etc. A wonderful volunteer
mom sat on the float in a nightgown and bathrobe with curlers in her hair
reading to about 10 children. We had to sit for two hours in the high
school parking lot while the judging took place. Since it was about 100
degrees, we thought the volunteer mom and the kids were major good sports.
Just braggin' about Gem County's biggest festival and our win.
Lucy
