Anthony and All,
Anthony, your reasoning is very sound and true! I for one, am very
independent! I have produced Kootenai County GenWeb pages for over a
year now and received rather nice comments about them except
of-course from Megan who said "some" members were "distressed"
because I had a small page asking for Voluntary support if someone
would like to donate. Rather than argue the point, I dumped the page
and that was that.
Anyway, My GenWeb page is just that, MY PAGE. No one will demand
that I place any of my material on any specific location. Should
this happen with the so-called new By-Laws the USGenWeb project can
write me off right now.
You all should be able to see what kind of problems putting all your
eggs in one basked does. Look at the problems were having right
now. I'm kind of getting tired of having my page links all of a
sudden go Obselete and then have to scramble through all the "P--ing"
contest messages before I can figure out where everything is so I can
rebuild my page links.

This precedent is one that could easily be abused in
the future, and why I say we should NOT allow it to exist. Who knows what
other domains would venture their way onto the "banned" list next year, or
the year after... who knows. Two years from now, would the bylaws be
changed so that all USGENWEB sites must be hosted on the rootsweb domain? I
just don't feel that this is a subject that the USGENWEB Project has any
business regulating.
One of the greatest aspects of the USGENWEB Projecvt was it's loose
affiliation. Let's not forget that. I would hate to see that very spirit
trodden in a droconian knee-jerk rush to fix something that isn't broken.
You also didn't mention how you mean to implement the new bylaws on existing
web sites...
All your asking for here is something that could ultimately splinter the
USGENWEB. I vote right now that the ability of the NC to regulate domains
be denied to them... this is something that is better left to the community
as a whole... not to the board.
