Megan,
My are we defensive or what? Now where in my e-mail did I mention
Jerry Dills name!! Neither did I accuse anyone of anything. I did
however, ask:
" WHY HAS THIS HAPPENED. AND WHAT HAS BECOME OF ALL THE INFORMATION WE
DEPOSITED?"
Personally, I liked Linda Russell Lewis' answer the best. She told
me exactly what has happened and why and what was being done to
correct the problem. (See below)
Now offense, but with an attitude with a chip on your shoulder you
may find that you alienate more than you bring together the USGenWeb
community. I was just looking for an answer, not a fight.
Mabe we should take a course in diplomacy?
Thank you for your response,
Jim Makovec

Subject: ID Archives
Hi James,
Jerry Dill is the one that removed all the files from the ID directory
of the USGenWeb. I had to "remove" him from his duties as file manager
because of that. What he did was totally against the USGenWeb Archives
guidelines, which he agreed to when he volunteered. Someone has
already volunteered to be the file manager for ID. The delay in
getting the table of contents updated is because *all* passwords had
to be changed for every state in the Archives because of Jerry's
actions.
The files were backed up and are now back in the ftp directory, and
the table of contents will be updated to link to them.
In the meantime, you can still access the files at:
ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/id
The files are also included in the new search engine, which will be
announced in a couple days.
Thanks so much for submitting the files to the USGenWeb Archives
(Digital Library).

I'm not quite sure what you're accusing us of, James.
It's Jerry Dill who removed all your archives. Flat out deleted them
and moved them to USGenWeb, Incorporated, which he owns.
We're working to restore those archives.
Now at the same time that you accuse us of being responsible for Jerry
stealing the files, you claim we've caused it by "picking on" him.
That confuses me somewhat.
As to why he did it? I'd assume you'd have to ask him; we're certainly
not privy to Jerry's reasoning.
