Subject: [IDGENWEB] fondest Christmas memories
My fondest Christmas memories center around times spent in the kitchen with my mother and
grandmother. My mother was a great candy-maker with fudge
and divinity being her specialities. I remember telling my cousin's young son
(now a grown man) that the reason it was called divinity was because it was the
food of angels. Popcorn ball making was a big, pre-Christmas family event with everyone
helping. Extra hands were were always welcomed & what fun to see the un-initiated make
popcorn balls!
And popcorn balls given to the mail carrier
& the paper carrier. Christmas baking started with fruitcakes, which were
made right after Thanksgiving. My grandmother's speciality was mincemeat pie -
and not any mincemeat would do. It had to be homemade, made from a venison
neck. We sure don't cook like that any longer!
