I've been using it for the initial check in our state-wide 'sweep', and
it's
great for a starting place. Don't rely completely on it. I suggest that you
still check those outside links. It will catch the redirected ones but not the
ones where someone has moved their site and only left a page with the address
and no redirect code. It can't check for content either, but nothing
checks for
that besides doing it ourself.
If you are checking a really large site with lots of links, I suggest setting
the options to not give the list of URLs for submitting to search engines
or the
site map. Both add a lot of kb to the final report and aren't really needed.
When I ran it on our OnLine Library, it generated a site map that was over 700
kb alone. (That one took a couple of hours to run.) That's when I changed the
report options. If you save the final .htm report, you can also strip those
target tags out that Xenu adds which I find so irritating.
