Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hello Mike
I have decided to leave the USGenWeb. My decision is based on the
continued bad feelings directed towards me since I resigned my position
as NENC Coordinator Rep. I have had my share of negative emails plus
never receiving an answer to a single email from unnamed SCs and ASCs in
states where my sites are located.
I really feel I have taken my role as CC for the many counties that I
have way too seriously given the attitude of some people. All of my
sites were redone from the ground up; which has been a very time
consuming undertaking. The worst of the worst sites that I adopted were
derelicts that contained everything from porn to resumes to attempts to
sell various items. I cannot imagine the message this sends to anyone
who would visit these sites and see what garbage is in them.
Both of my Idaho sites were extensively redone. Rather then go back to
an older version of the sites, my site files will be available for FTP.
Per chance, if anyone is interested in using TreePad as his or her
editor, then this would be a very easy transfer of the sites, done in a
matter of minutes! I will do whatever to make sure my Idaho sites with
all updates are transferred in an orderly fashion to other CCs.
I apologize for any inconvenience this causes but I have to do what I
feel is right for me!
Cordially,
Joe
Boise & Valley Cos. do not seem to be working.
Gem Co. worked on a file I added several months ago (Shropshire) but not on Burdge which I added last wk. It did however pick up Burdge from the "Boise County Deaths from Newspapers" test page which I thought I had taken down. (I did not receive permission from Idaho Genealogy Society to use their files.)
When I googled Gem Co. the first of the month, the old, roootsweb site came up within the first 3 or 4 entries, but not the new, http://gem.idgenweb.org/ site. I haven't checked my other two counties nor I have I checked since. I checked the rootsweb pg, but it doesn't look like I have access to the metadata??

Subject: [IDGEN] Test of IDGENWEB State-wide Google Custom Search Engine
I'd really appreciate it if each of you would do a short test of the custom search engine. You will find a long search box near the bottom of each state page including the home page. Will you pick a resource that is available at your county or special project site and put in search terms that should find it and perform the search? Then report back to me if your resource was found at the current URL and I would greatly appreciate it.

Ahhh.... I found the problem, I believe, and have fixed it. Try your tests
again.

I'll take a close look at that and let you know what I find.

It brought up Elmore County's page with no problem, however, it was the second pick, not the top. On the second search I tried, it was the top pick, so I think the first one may have been the result of what I chose to search for.
It looks good. Our users need to be able to search our sites as easily. I have a freefind search available on Elmore.

I've heard from quite a number of you so far, all saying that you want us to adopt the draft volunteer Requirements and Guidelines. There have been no more suggestions for additions or changes. If you do have some such input, please provide that by the end of February. Otherwise we will adopt these effective the first of March 2010.

A bunch of updates have been made to the Idaho Gazeteer during the last few days. It is found at: http://www.idgenweb.org/idgenweb_detail_gazetteer.php
The plan is to convert this into a searchable database, and to include substantially more information in it, such as geographic coordinates, USGS map name, altitude, and more descriptive information.
If you find any communities for your counties are not found here, I'd like to know about it.
Mike St. Clair
Thank you everyone. I just spent quite a bit of time updating the site and fixing some links. I hope you'll have a chance to look at what I've done and let me know if you find something that doesn't work or if I need something else.
Thank you for this opportunity.

The Requirements and Suggestions for IDGENWEB volunteers are documented at: http://www.idgenweb.org/idgenweb_main_volunteers.php
I think these have been posted long enough that it is time now for any discussion that needs to take place before they move from Draft status to Adopted status. If you are satisfied with them as currently written, please indicate that here on this list. "Yes", "let's adopt them", or any other way you want to say it will be adequate to indicate your approval. If you have questions, want clarification, or have suggestions for their improvement, that is also appropriate.
Remember, that once adopted, the floor is always open for suggestions to improve these requirements and suggestions. If you encounter a situation where you think adjustments are needed, speak out at any time.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your service to fellow genealogical researchers with Idaho roots. Your volunteer service is greatly appreciated.
I'd also like to remind you all that we will have a regular election for State Coordinator in October this year, as described in the document linked to above. You should be thinking about whether you are interested in so serving, or if there is someone in the project that you think would be a good coordinator.

I am delighted to let you all know that we have a new member of our IDGENWEB team. Jeanne Hicks has just been appointed as the coordinator for Elmore County. She is also a coordinator in NCGENWEB, for McDowell County. Jeanne, welcome aboard, and we all look forward to getting better acquainted.

Hello to all!
During the last three weeks seventeen Idaho counties in the USGenWeb Idaho Archives have been rebuilt. Hopefully, the rest will be completed within the next six weeks. The Archives are being compressed from approximately 500 HTML index pages to a more manageable approximate of 175.
For those of you that link to the Idaho Archives ... please be aware that the old URL http://usgwarchives.org/id/idfiles.htm is no longer an updated site. This is basically a backup server today. To the best of my knowledge none of the HTML index pages get updated. The file manager listed on them does NOT respond to e-mail. This is one of two backup servers for the USGenWeb Archives and only TXT and JPG files are updated.
The new URL for the active USGenWeb Idaho Archives is http://www.usgwarchives.net/id/idfiles.htm .
Best regards,
Mitch Ryder

Canyon recently. I am also scanning three 1940s high school year books to be
transcribed later.
