Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi Mike,
My name is Shirlene Jensen and I became the host of the Bear Lake County page on May 1.
I am native to Bear Lake and still have lots of family there. I hope to have the site just full of information that people can find on their families.

Teton County is alive and well.
In the last month a new list of post offices in the County w/dates was
added. Some improvements were made to the Surname registry
(http://tetonid.genweb.us/main_teton_surnames.php), the Teton County
Gazetteer (http://tetonid.genweb.us/detail_teton_county_gazetteer.php) and
the Cemetery home page (http://tetonid.genweb.us/main_teton_cemeteries.php).
Comments/suggestions/questions are always welcome.

After I messed up on some of the "adopt me" list of counties, I decided it would be useful to me to proceed with a formal roll call. In a roll call, each member of the IDGENWEB Project on this required mailing list responds to let the rest of us know that you are there. I am planning to implement a monthly roll call in IDGENWEB. I haven't yet decided on the parameters. So consider this a test which in this case will last the rest of the month of August. Please respond with:
- The counties for which you are the coordinator
- Your name
- Anything you would like to tell the rest of us about your website, like recent changes, road blocks, plans, etc.
I'd appreciate your responding within the next few days if practical. If you happen to be away at this time, just respond when you get back. The best and preferred way is to Reply to this message.

Many of you have email links to allow your visitors to reach the State
Coordinator. That's a very good idea and will likely become a requirement
within the project. But when the SC changes, it's a bit of a bother.
At this point I am requesting that you change those links from the old
email address of:
seidahogenealogy(a)hotmail.com
to the new SC email address of:
sc(a)idgenweb.org
At this point I don't yet have access to the Rootsweb accounts so I can't
help with that process directly, but if you have any problems doing this,
please yell and I will help indirectly.
Note that I am going to pass on the domain and that email address to any
successor as SC, so hopefully that will mean this sort of change will not
be required again in the future.
Mike St. Clair
State Coordinator - IDGENWEB
I am delighted to let you all know that Mags Shaw is returning to our
state project as coordinator of Clark County effective today.
Welcome back!
Mike St. Clair
State Coordinator - IDGENWEB
Historically, most of the Idaho County Coordinators have used free web server space at Rootsweb. They have been very kind to provide this at no charge and been a good friend to USGENWEB. A few coordinators have chosen to host their counties elsewhere. I have been one of those, and have done so primarily so I could use some facilities that were not available on USGENWEB servers.
I decided some time ago that I would obtain a dedicated domain (idgenweb.org) and donate it to our state project for potential future use. As the new State Coordinator I have decided to add a web hosting account at Bluehost on the same terms. Presently, all that is hosted there is the prototype/test version of our state web pages, but in the near future I will offer to provide free hosting for any Idaho County that wishes to use it. More details will be forthcoming in the near future. For now, I just wanted you all to know that if you are paying for hosting but would rather not, or if you are hosting at Rootsweb but would prefer to have the option to use advanced facilities like databases or PHP, idgenweb.org is an option for you. Alert me if you have an upcoming renewal date and would rather not wait for an announcement of details.
Note that I will never mandate where your county websites are to be hosted. You will have the choice, as you always have. But you will now have another choice, and I think you will find it is a good one, which will include monthly offsite backups of your files, activity information about how your site is being used, and advanced web facilities.
Mike St. Clair
State Coordinator - IDGENWEB
If you've looked at the prototype page at http://www.idgenweb.org, you will notice a different IDGENWEB logo than has been traditionally used. I'm very interested to know if any of you have the skill and the interest in proposing other "versions" of a potential state project logo. If so, I'd be delighted to see any such proposals.
My preference would be a logo that is similar in size and shape to one of the official USGENWEB logos found at http://www.usgenweb.org/volunteers/logos.shtml but I'd be willing to look at anything you want to send my way.
Right now I'm thinking about the possibility of having more than one logo option for coordinators to select from, which would include the legacy logo. That's a decision I will consult with the rest of you one.
Note that the Rootsweb lists do not allow attachments. If you want to propose a logo, send it directly to my email address and I'll make all of those received available for review and discussion by the other project members.
Mike St. Clair
Just on in the intro on the new home page. Great new logo!

Thanks Sharon. I guess I knew that but was looking too much at the state

I wanted to let you all know that I am looking forward to serving as the Coordinator for the Idaho State project. Thank you to everyone who encouraged me in running and who expressed confidence in my by voting for me. I'd also like to express my thanks to Jason Mendenhall for his service in this role for the past several years, as well as my other predecessors. I hope you will all be a bit patient with me as I come out of the starting gates, especially if I do something that concerns you. If I do, I want to hear from you. And I'm always open to suggestions, advice, concerns - anything you want to say is welcome. I will be very anxious to hear from you if you are encountering problems or need any sort of help to accomplish what you would like to. My main job, in my opinion, will be to help you.
I'd like to invite you all to take a look at a "draft" for a new state website design that I've been working on. It's not quite ready to go live, as there is more work to do and more proofing to be done, but it is ready for anyone who would like to take a look and provide feedback on what they see. I'm happy to hear from anyone, whether you like it, want to recommend improvements, or even if you hate it. In the latter case, I'd appreciate hearing why. You can view this draft at: http://www.idgenweb.org/testing.php
Note that part of this site is a "very drafty" set of rules and suggestions for coordinators within the state. (at http://www.idgenweb.org/idgenweb_main_volunteers.php) A little later I will be presenting a more mature version of this document for your discussion and input. At this point, just read it as my intention for us to have a more formal set of expectations of coordinators than have been in place in the past. They may change substantially before they are implemented.
I'm also happy to announce that Mags Shaw has agreed to rejoin our project and will be taking on the responsibility for a couple of counties (probably Boise and Clark, but that isn't final).
We do have a number of counties that don't currently have coordinators assigned. I believe those are: Bannock, Boundary, Butte, Custer, Minadoka, Shoshone and Valley. If you know someone not currently in the project with connections to any of these counties, feel free to invite them to contact me if they are interested in considering becoming a coordinator in IDGENWEB. Note also that very shortly we will have a formal "waiting list" for those interested in a county which is already staffed, in case the county someone is interested in becomes available in the future.

Good morning, Idaho!
(I heard a similar line in a movie somewhere, and couldn't resist).
The election of a new Idaho State Coordinator has concluded. One candidate was nominated, and all votes cast for in favor of this candidate.
Sherri, Suzanne and myself are pleased that we were able to assist the IDGenWeb Project with this election, and are equally pleased to introduce your new State Coordinator, Mike St. Clair.
Congratulations, Mike - now get to work! <grin>
